Change background

Drop a photo and an AI model in your browser cuts out the subject, then put it on white, a colour, a gradient, your own photo or a blurred copy of the original.

About this tool

A New Background in Seconds, Without Uploading the Photo

The subject is cut out on your device and placed on the background you choose, with edges, shadow and lighting you can adjust.

Marketplace-Ready Product Shots

One click gives a square 1:1 image on pure white with even padding around the product, the format most marketplaces ask for, with an optional soft floor shadow.

Colour, Gradient, Photo or Blur

Pick a colour or gradient, or drop your own background photo, then fill or fit it, zoom and drag it into place. Blur keeps the original scene but softens it like a portrait lens.

Edges and Light That Match

Feather or shrink the edge so no old background shows, add a drop or floor shadow, and let Match lighting tint the subject toward the new background's colour.

How to use it

  1. Drop a photo, or paste it with Ctrl + V. The subject is cut out automatically.
  2. Pick a preset or a background: colour, gradient, your own photo or blur.
  3. Adjust the edge, shadow and lighting, and choose the original frame or a square.
  4. Choose PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF and click Save image.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Every image is decoded, processed and encoded inside your browser tab with Canvas, Web Workers and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

How do I make a white background for Amazon, eBay or Etsy?

Click the Marketplace 1:1 preset. It puts the product on pure white (#FFFFFF) in a square image with even padding, and saves it at up to 4096 px. White + shadow adds a soft floor shadow.

Can I use my own photo as the background?

Yes. Choose Photo, drop the background picture, then pick Fill or Fit, zoom in and drag the preview to move it behind the subject.

How do I stop a thin outline of the old background showing?

Move Shrink / grow a little to the left to pull the edge in, and raise Feather for a softer transition. For stray spots, go back to the cut-out and use the brush.

Why does the first run take longer?

The first run downloads the AI model once (about 80 MB). Your browser caches it, so later images start right away and the tool also works offline.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Yes, it is free to use without an account, and Toolula never adds a watermark. The free plan has fair-use limits; Toolula Pro, an optional plan, raises them.
