Blur Faces and Other Parts of a Video

Drop a video, drag a box over what should not be seen, and pick blur, pixelate or a black box. Each area can apply to the whole video or only to a stretch of it. The video is processed on your device and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop a video.
  2. Add an area and drag its corners over the face, plate or text.
  3. Choose the effect and strength, and a time range if it should not cover the whole video.
  4. Click Start and download the video.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blur follow a moving face?

No. Every area stays where you put it. For something that moves, make several areas with time ranges, or use a wider area.

Can a blur be undone?

A light blur sometimes can, at least partly. The strong settings average the area down to a few blocks, which removes the detail for good; the black box hides it completely. Use those for faces, plates and text.

Does the video quality change?

The video is re-encoded once, so there is a small generation loss everywhere, not just in the areas. The sound is copied unchanged.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The video is read in small slices and the result is streamed to your disk, so even multi-gigabyte files work without filling up memory.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and written inside your browser tab using WebCodecs — nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no watermark. Once loaded, the page also works offline.
