Increase Video Volume and Improve the Sound
Drop a video and Toolula measures how loud it is, the way broadcasters do (EBU R128). Pick a target — −14 LUFS for YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, −16 for podcasts — or set the volume yourself, cut low rumble and even out the voice. Listen to the result before you export. The picture is copied as it is, only the sound is re-encoded, and nothing leaves your device.
How to use it
- Drop a video; its loudness is measured.
- Choose a loudness target, or Manual and a volume.
- Switch on Cut rumble and Voice clarity if the video has speech.
- Play the video and compare Original and Enhanced, then click Start and download.
Frequently asked questions
What does −14 LUFS mean?
LUFS measures how loud a whole recording sounds to the ear, not just its peaks. YouTube, Spotify, TikTok and Instagram play everything at about −14 LUFS, so a video at that level is not turned down or left sounding quiet next to others.
Will a louder video distort?
No. A limiter catches the peaks before they reach the top of the scale, so the sound never clips. Very quiet recordings can only be raised so far without the background noise coming up with them.
Does it remove background noise?
It removes low rumble from wind and air conditioning. Removing steady noise such as fans or hiss is planned as a separate option.
Does the picture lose quality?
No. The video stream is copied unchanged; only the sound is processed and encoded again.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The video is read in small slices and the result is streamed to your disk, so even multi-gigabyte files work without filling up memory.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and written inside your browser tab using WebCodecs — nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no watermark. Once loaded, the page also works offline.
