About this tool

Text on Photos, Laid Out Like a Design Tool

As many text layers, stickers and shapes as you need, each moved, rotated and resized right on the picture, with the mouse or a finger.

Fonts for Every Script

Thirteen self-hosted fonts, from Anton and Bangers to Lora and Caveat. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic and Greek text falls back to Noto Sans glyph by glyph, and emoji come out in colour.

Outline, Shadow and Box

Give text a coloured outline, a soft shadow or a rounded background box with its own colour and opacity, plus letter and line spacing and alignment.

Arrows, Boxes and Circles

Point at something with an arrow, frame it with a box or circle, and save your favourite text styles as presets.

How to use it

  1. Drop a photo, paste it with Ctrl + V, or start with a blank canvas.
  2. Type your text, then drag it into place; the square handle resizes and the round one rotates it.
  3. Pick a font, colour, outline, shadow or background box, and add emoji or shapes if you like.
  4. Choose PNG, JPG or WebP and click Download.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Every image is decoded, processed and encoded inside your browser tab with Canvas, Web Workers and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

Does the saved image look exactly like the preview?

Yes. The preview and the file are drawn by the same code, with every size relative to the picture, so the text wraps, sits and is outlined identically at full resolution.

Can I write in Chinese, Japanese, Arabic or with emoji?

Yes. Any glyph the chosen font lacks is taken from Noto Sans (including Noto Sans SC, JP and KR, loaded only when your text needs them), and emoji use your device's colour emoji font.

Is the photo kept at its original size?

Yes, up to 16 megapixels; larger photos are scaled down to that, because phones refuse bigger canvases.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Yes, it is free to use without an account, and Toolula never adds a watermark. The free plan has fair-use limits; Toolula Pro, an optional plan, raises them.
