Remove EXIF data

Drop photos to see what they reveal — GPS location, camera serial number, date, editing software, AI prompts — and remove it without touching the picture.

About this tool

Share Photos Without Giving Away Where You Were

Phones and cameras store far more than the picture. This tool shows it and removes it.

See What a Photo Reveals

GPS coordinates, camera and lens, serial number, date taken, software, author, XMP and IPTC data, comments and the prompts AI image tools write into PNGs.

Lossless Cleaning

JPG, PNG and WebP are rewritten without re-encoding, so the picture stays bit-identical. HEIC and other formats are saved as a clean JPG.

Looks the Same Afterwards

The colour profile and the rotation are kept, so cleaned photos keep their colours and stay upright.

How to use it

  1. Drop one or more photos, or paste one with Ctrl + V.
  2. Click a file in the list to see the metadata it contains. GPS locations are highlighted.
  3. Click Remove metadata.
  4. Download each cleaned photo or all of them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Every image is decoded, processed and encoded inside your browser tab with Canvas, Web Workers and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

Does removing EXIF data reduce quality?

No. For JPG, PNG and WebP only the metadata blocks are removed; the image data is copied byte for byte. HEIC and other formats are saved once as a high-quality JPG.

Why does my photo stay upright after cleaning?

Phones often store a photo sideways and add a rotation note. Toolula keeps only that note, so the photo still shows the right way up. Nothing else from the EXIF block is kept.

Do WhatsApp, Instagram or email remove GPS data?

Some social apps strip it, but email attachments, cloud links, messengers sending files as documents and many websites keep it. Removing it yourself is the only way to be sure.

Can I see the metadata without removing it?

Yes. Every file you add is read immediately and its metadata is listed; nothing changes until you click Remove metadata.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Yes, it is free to use without an account, and Toolula never adds a watermark. The free plan has fair-use limits; Toolula Pro, an optional plan, raises them.
